Perhaps 'love' is too forceful a word . .  but I like wine, I don't just like drinking it though, I believe that I have moved on from that simple, sensual enjoyment that you get from wine to an understanding of most things grape, vine and wine related. The thing about wine is . . .  it's complicated, there are millions of different wines, made from hundreds of different grape varieties, in thousands of different regions in many different countries, so seriously its a hard subject start getting into. There are hundreds of books out that attempt to explain wines complications, some do so pleasurably, however the majority simply provide information and are there to be consulted on a reference basis. But seriously, wine need not be complicated. The majority of us would just like to know enough to select a good wine from the supermarket shelves or pick up a few good bottles from the hypermarket on the way back from holiday.

 

The most important lesson to learn about wine is thats it's subjective . . . just because one wine critic raves about the unmissible Bonarda from Mendoza, Argentina, it doesn't mean that everyone will like it, so the trick is to have enough knowledge to form your own opinions of wine.
